Setting up a system primarily devoted to providing high-end gaming experience requires a lot of consideration. The components one decides, from the cabinet to the processor, should all be compatible with each other and be able to meet the expectations of the gamer.

One of the components which get comparatively lesser attention in the process is the monitor. Users always forget that the monitor is responsible for displaying the cumulative performance of the system and must be able to do justice to it. They are the metaphorical eyes that act as the window to the soul of the system.

Buying Guide

We have looked at the best budget gaming monitors available in India. There are many designed; however, these are the ones we thought to be top of the line. There are a few factors and components that must be considered when looking to buy a good gaming monitor. We will now go through a simple buyers guide to consider when looking to purchase a gaming monitor.

·   Screen Resolution

The first factor that anyone looks for when buying a monitor or television is also the factor that is most advertised by the company: screen resolution. The screen resolution is the measurement of how well the colors of the pictures can be represented on the screen. The most standard ranges to look for are 1880p, 1440p, and 2160p. these resolutions are represented as full HD, Quad HD, and Ultra HD respectively.

People always go for the bigger version as we believe bigger to be better. However, as is the case with most things in life, it all depends on how it is used. In the case of a gaming system, the resolution of a gaming monitor will depend on your GPU. Most recent GPUs support UHD resolution but it is always advisable to double-check. A 1440p and 2160p resolution is ideal as the GPU can be updated as necessary.

·   Refresh Rate

In technical terms, the refresh rate is the number of times the monitor can refresh the image on display within one second and it’s measured in Hertz. In today’s time, we have the following refresh rates available in the market: 60 Hz, 120 Hz, 144 Hz, and 240Hz.

Even the lowest range of refresh rate (60Hz) is a good number, but a larger rate gives more fluidity to the picture. Again, the refresh rate must e compatible with the GPU to avoid screen tearing and other such errors.

·   Adaptive-Sync

Screen tearing is an error in which the image in the screen gets horizontal and vertical breaks and the image becomes un-aligned. To avoid such problems companies that produce GPUs have come up with Sync technology. The best known are AMD’s Freesync and Nvidia’s G-Sync. When buying a monitor make sure it is compatible with the type of adaptive sync you have available in your GPU.

·   Panel Technology

Panel technology talks about the type of display which is available in your monitors. There are two which lead the display types in panels today. One is an LED technology called In-Plane Switching and the other is LCD based Twisted Nematic.

The IPS tech is known to provide a better picture quality which is more vibrant and has a better color pallet. This is the technology that is more common with the television produced today. however, Twisted Nematic is known for faster response time which is more compatible with fast-paced games.

·   Response Time

Response time is measured by the time taken by one pixel to switch from black to white, or the time is taken by the pixel to switch from grey to any other color. You are looking for lower response time as this will ensure that your images on your screen transition and move more smoothly.

A Twisted Nematic panel is known to have better reaction time as it has a response time of 1ms, whereas an In-Plane Switching panel has a reaction time of 4ms. Though undistinguishable, the 3ms between these two panels make a lot of difference.

·   Screen Size

To be fairly honest, even though playing on a 27-inch screen may seem like an ideal setup than a 24 inch, it really doesn’t make much difference. The range of sizes available in monitors today is from 21 to 27 inches. A 27-inch screen will be able to show higher resolution like 2160p, but you will have to sit a way back to get the whole experience. 24 inches is an ideal size.

·   Game Connector

The connectors available on the monitor will decide the quality of sound and picture that the monitor will deliver. For the best quality picture and sound, go for a DisplayPort 1.4. A decent HDMI will do the trick, but won’t be able to match the output of a DisplayPort 1.4.

·   Speakers

Not as crucial a factor as the ones stated above. Most speakers come with in-built speakers which range from 1.5-2 watts. You can always just plug into the audio jack.

Keeping all that we have discussed above and the monitors that we have looked into above that, the following is probably the ideal monitor that a gaming enthusiast should be looking for

Key Feature :

·   Screen Size – 24 inches

·   Screen Resolution – Quad High Definition (QHD) or 2560 x 1440 p

·   Refresh Rate – 144-165 Hz

·   Response Time – 1ms/4ms

·   Adaptive Sync – Freesync (AMD) or G-Sync (Nvidia)

·   Panel Type – Twisted Nematic (LCD)/ In-Plane Switching (LED)

·   Input Ports – Display Port 1.4 or HDMI
